of the above clipping for clarity) Marty descendents gather for reunion Descendents of Johan Jacob Marty gathered Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Rosa, Monroe, and celebrated the 90th anniversary of the arrival in this country of the Marty family. Many of the early generation Martys were pioneers in the expansion of the local cheese industry to a national scale. Family members in attendance represented the third, fourth and fifth generation of Johan Marty. Coming the greatest distance was Sydney Kinney, Bellevue, Wash. Others attending included Miss Lillian Gempeler, Mrs. Edna J. Leiser, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Snively, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rosa, Mark Rosa, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rosa, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rosa, Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Showalter and family, New Glarus; Mrs. Frieda Hoesly Gempeler, Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Gempeler and family and Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Gempeler, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Marty Schmidt, Hinsdale, Ill.; Mrs. Barbara Gower, Wheaton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gower and family, Romeoville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. David Roth and family, Des Plains, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cullen, Belvidere, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Ron Merritt and family, Sherman Tex.; Mrs. Gertrude Lund, Belle Plains, Iowa, and Mrs. Esther Rosa, Marengo, Iowa. The last previous reunion held in Monroe for the group was in 1959. |
